  1. What is going on? THE PYLONS: These are likely to have the following effects: Loss of beautiful views(spoilt by pylons) onto open countryside currently enjoyed by all local residents and visitors to the local area or driving in from Cheshire/Shropshire – replaced by an Industrialised Rural Landscape. Threat to tourism and risk to existing jobs and businesses e.g. Award winning Leisure Park and many other pubs, hotels, B&B’s, golf courses and attractions. This area is one of the designated wards in the ‘World Heritage Site Tourism’ project. Impact to an area rich in biodiversity – wildlife habitats such as Swans, owls, breeding Goshawks, newts, badgers, otters, bats, etc. Health implications associated with pylons electro magnetic fields. Unspoilt rural villages will become associated with large industrial pylons which could devalue house prices and put people off coming into the area. Noise pollution from the cables with crackling and humming due to corona discharge , made worse by damp weather. Radio and TV interference. The project breaks many of the Holford rules (see WPL website library), which give guidance around pylon routes. Along the proposed routes are special and historic landscape areas and several listed buildings. Lessen this area’svisual enjoyment for visitors, fishermen, golfers, birdwatchers, caravaners, campers etc. The Wellbeing of Local People is a fundamental policy in the Welsh Assembly Government ‘s ‘One Wales policy’ . Wrexham Power Limited (WPL) is proposing to build a large gas fired power station on the edge of Wrexham Industrial Estate. They are Property Developers from Birmingham with parent company registered in Bermuda. They are NOT a UTILITY COMPANY. The Power Station proposals suggest benefits which may not actually be delivered. For more information on the proposals please go to Wrexham Power‘s website www.wrexham-power.com. But don’t believe all you read!! The electricity generated will need to be transported to the Legacy Substation by means of 400kv SUPERSIZE 47 METRE HIGH TOWER PYLONS. These may ruin a massive swathe of rural countryside from Bowling Bank, Isycoed, Pickhill, Bangor on Dee, Marchwiel, Crosslanes, Eyton , Sontley to Legacy. Reasons to Object THE GAS FIRED POWER STATION: Whilst the UK needs more power, there is no genuine need for a scheme of this size in Wrexham area (Wales already produces more power than it uses). There are better locations for such a development in the UK such as the many recently closed nuclear, coal and oil plants which have pylons in place. It seems there is no proposal for a sub-station, so the claims that the scheme will benefit the Industrial Estate by providing extra power directly into it, appear flawed. Wrexham Power are claiming the possibility of sales of heat but have the wrong plant and no infrastructure - so these claims of benefits could be misleading . There are better options for the Industrial Estate that could genuinely achieve the benefits, with no requirement to spoil our environment, e.g. a much smaller sustainable low carbon energy efficient plant. Claims of jobs for Wrexham people are likely to be dubious– many of these jobs are highly specialised and workers are likely to be brought in from elsewhere. The power station would be a huge ‘eye sore’ from rural locations including the Cheshire/Shropshire approaches to Wrexham. Pollution could affect the Industrial Estate and local villages including Holt /Farndon. This is not a sustainable or low carbon proposal when it could and should be. It will produce up to 1.8 million tonnes per year of carbon waste which will eventually need to be stored underground at Wrexham or out to sea . Is ‘FRACKING’ further down the line? Earthquakes/water supply risks. The Planning Process A formal consultation is due to start soon. The Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change in Westminster will ultimately grant consent. All interested parties, including local residents and Wrexham County Borough Council, will have opportunities to submit their views during the consultation. However this consultation is short so we are starting our objections NOW, focusing mainly on the Power Company at this stage. W.R.A.P.S. are a group who are fighting to stop the developers and need your help. PLEASE SEE THE BACK PAGE FOR INFORMATION ON WHAT YOU CAN DO TO OBJECT .
