  1. KY Tech Health Tip #38 Beauty TipAugust 22, 2005 “Color and Skin Tone" Have you ever bought foundation makeup, lipstick, or blush only to take it home, put it on, and notice that somehow it just did not look right on you? Have you ever had your hair colored the same tone as your best friend’s - yet on you it just wasn’t right? How about the red dress that looked so great on that blonde - but your red dress just doesn’t work for you? It has happened to all of us. One day, a brilliant lady devised a method for determining correct colors as they relate to our natural skin tone. We are warm or cool in coloring. We are never both, nor do we change from one to the other as the seasons change. We typically and naturally pick our right colors, but sometimes we stray. It is then, as we look into the mirror, that it becomes painfully obvious that something is amiss; however, we can’t quiet pinpoint exactly what that is. Cool Coloring - Undertones will be in the pink tones such as pinkish fingertips, pink tones inside the lips, pinkish cheeks (without makeup), and pinks within the inner skin of the eyelids. Your smile will be whiter and even the whites of your eyes will be brighter.Warm Coloring - Fingertips will be more of a peach tone, the insides of your lips will be pale peach in color, less color in cheek area, and the inner folds of eyelids will be peach toned. Your teeth will have a hint of a very light creamy color and the whites of your eyes will be less bright than a cool. It all boils down to cool and warm colors. Which one are you?
