  2. Applied Science and Research Committee Carry-over Action Items SC4.3: IICWG recommends converting sea ice model output in a common data format, netCDF, in order to better share/exchange data. Responsible: Members of Science Committee. Status: CLOSED Met.no and CIS have or are moving towards netCDF format for future model output. Others using GRIB. Agreed during Science discussions to use either format and ensure that proper conversion is done between the two.

  3. Applied Science and Research Committee Carry-over Action Items SC4.5: Identify national science leads at each ice center in order to develop a structure for collaboration. Responsible: IICWG National representatives. Status: CLOSED New action item (SC6.2) to replace.

  4. Applied Science and Research Committee Carry-over Action Items SC4.8-4.9: Gather additional input from Baltic Sea Ice nations and finalize and publish the "White Paper on Data Assimilation," under an official publication. Responsible: T. Carrieres, L-A. Breivik. Target Date: September 29, 2004 Status: Recommend to CLOSE Item to be reviewed at IICWG-7 if necessary to update in light of present IPY and other collaborative proposal(s) ongoing. Consider to use as a reference document for IPY and other funding proposals.

  5. Applied Science and Research Committee Carry-over Action Items SC5.5: Mirror of 5.7 from Main Meeting Based on outcome of SC5.4, draft a letter (to be signed by IICWG Co-Chairs) indicating IICWG interests and IPY Focal Point to be sent to: WMO Secretariat Secretary General, IPCC, ICUSU, and Arctic Council, and others. Upon completion of IPY inventory (SC5.4) and identification of limited set of projects, consider communication to international polar community via ArcticInfo distribution list or other means. Responsible: Science Co-Chairs and David Grimes Target Date(s): August 31, 2004. Status: Recommend to CLOSE Letter not sent to suggested councils. However, successful IICWG project submission was made to IPY with Tom Carrieres identified as lead.

  6. Applied Science and Research IICWG-6 Action Items SC6.1: IICWG to review the format of future science workshop/seminar and the role of the Science Committee Linked to Main Meeting Action Item 6.10 (Integrate the 1-day IICWG Science workshop into the general meeting. Develop agenda on 3-4 important science topics) Responsible: Science Committee and IICWG membership Target Date(s): IICWG-7, Helsinki. Status: OPEN

Applied Science and Research IICWG-6 Action Items SC6.2: Re-identify ice service/national Science representatives for all member nations (request that ice services identify a rep – draft letter for the IICWG Co-Chairs to distribute) **For those services which do not have Science sections, request Heads of Ice Service to propose appropriate national representatives as a contact Responsible: Science Committee Co-Chairs Target Date(s): IICWG-7, Helsinki. Status: OPEN

  9. Applied Science and Research IICWG-6 Action Items SC6.4: Contact PIPS/Stennis modeling team and involve them in the IICWG Modeling/DA process and project. Responsible: Clemente-Colon Target Date(s): IICWG-7, Helsinki. Status: OPEN

  10. Applied Science and Research IICWG-6 Action Items SC6.5: Start writing national level IPY proposal(s), share and exchange, and iterate between the partners. Responsible: Carrieres to coordinate amongst member nation leads. Target Date(s): IICWG-7, Helsinki. Status: OPEN

  11. Applied Science and Research IICWG-6 Action Items SC6.6: Target an initial meeting between March and June 2006 to consolidate coordination, location TBD (possibly Eumetsat mtg in Helsinki in June’06). Responsible: Carrieres and Committee Co-Chairs. Target Date(s): IICWG-7, Helsinki. Status: OPEN Target is to have a dedicated IPY Science Session at IICWG-7.

  12. Applied Science and Research IICWG-6 Action Items SC6.7: Each national member requested to circulate brief summary of Top Research priorities and plans to facilitate identification of complementary &/or common activities and areas for collaboration (request rep. present at next IICWG). Responsible: Science Committee Co-Chairs Target Date(s): IICWG-7, Helsinki. Status: OPEN

  13. Applied Science and Research IICWG-6 Action Items SC6.8: Develop a process for rotation of Committee Co-Chairs. (Flett stepping down as Co-Chair for IICWG-7). Responsible: Science Committee members. Target Date(s): IICWG-7, Helsinki. Status: OPEN
