  2. Embedding Your Quotes • ‘C’ level context: Wiesel says,“Why did I pray? A strange question. Why did I live? Why did I breathe?” (Wiesel 2). • ‘B’ level context: After Wiesel’s religious guide Moshe asks Wiesel why this boy spends so much time in prayer, Wiesel replies,“Why did I pray? A strange question. Why did I live? Why did I breathe?” (Wiesel 2). • ‘A’ level context. To create ‘A’ level context the writer must FLAWLESSLY embed the passage from the text with the writer’s own sentence: After Wiesel’s religious guide asks Wiesel why he spends so much time praying, Wiesel decides it is a “strange question” (Wiesel 2) as praying comes so naturally he has never wondered why he does it.

  3. Embedding Your Quotes • ‘C’ level context: Wiesel says,“I believed profoundly. During the day I studied the Talmud, and at night I ran to the synagogue weep over the destruction of the Temple” (Wiesel 1). • ‘B’ level context: Wiesel describes his worship schedule when he is a young boy by saying,“I [believe] profoundly. During the day I stud[y] the Talmud, and at night I [run] to the synagogue to weep over the destruction of the Temple” (Wiesel 1). • ‘A’ level context (to create A level context the writer must FLAWLESSLY embed the passage from the text with the writer’s own sentence: As a young boy whose life revolves around religion Wiesel “…believe[s] profoundly. During the day [he] studie[s] the Talmud, and at night [he runs] to the synagogue to weep over the destruction of the Temple” (Wiesel 1).

Day 1Task • Using the passage from the previous slide write the first half of your first body paragraph (in the beginning…). • Be sure to stay in present tense. • Embed your passage using adequate background information (who is speaking? where is Wiesel? who is he with?). • Use notes from your ESA chart to create interesting, thorough CMs.
