CME – Medical Code The professional medical code (as adopted at the German Medical Assembly) describes the following requirements: The practising physician is obliged to extend his medical knowledge and to inform himself about the currently valid provisions affecting his practice of medicine. CME - Regulations • The General Medical Association is committed to the duty of the medical profession to undergo continuing medical education. • Specialists are under the obligation to participate continuously in certified CME programmes of the Medical Association at local or at national level, in order to be able to exercise their profession according to the state of the art. • A physician must provide the competent medical association with suitable evidence that he has used the mentioned CME opportunities. • In order to give medical specialists the possibility to document publicly their participation in structured CME, the Medical Associations have implemented the CME certificate. CME - Regulations Model regulation of CME:containsrecommendations on the characteristics and conditions needed for effective integration of formal CME. • All specialists have to gather 250 CME credit-pointsover aperiod of 5 years – this amountresults in the CME-certificate. • One CME point is equivalent to a CME unit, which corresponds to45 minutes. • The CME certificateis valid for a period of 5 years,after this period its validity expires automatically. • The law applicable to all procedures referred to in this guideline is the “Allgemeine Verfahrensordnung” i.e. the (State) law regulating administrative procedures. Germany: § 95d Social Security Code V (effective 2004-01-01)- (1) -CME mandatory for M.Ds. within the National Association ofStatutory Health Insurance Physicians (>2004-07-01) • Consequences, if CME–proof is uncompleted or lacking: • 1st quarter of the year after 5 y.: 10% cut off from fees • 5th quarter of the year after 5 y.: 25% cut off from fees Cut off from fees stops at the end of the year in which the completed CME-proof is shown up officially. • Consequence, if CME–proof is uncompleted or lacking >2 years after the 5-y-period: withdrawal of accreditation / contract Conceptional conditions

CME - Regulations • Promoters have the possibility to apply for the certification of one or several events by specifying in their application the medical field(s) and the kind of CME for which certification is sought. • Applications for certification have to be addressed directly to the Berlin Medical Association. • The decision on certification and on the amount of credit-points awarded is made by the Berlin Medical Association. • The medical association is authorised to levy a fee for the expenses relating to certification. The board of the Medical Association determines the amount of this fee. Conceptional conditions

Process of CME-certification by the Berlin Medical Association Application only online via the Website www.aekb.de • Certification • Publication in the calender of events of the BMA Tasks of the Berlin MA • Check: • CME-Criteria o.K ? • Is there a schedule (attachment)? • Is there a sponsoring/ commercial provider?/ Degree of sponsoring? Recognition of application-data If necessary: further data Advisory board or: Refusal (5% of all applications)

The application-form consists of several parts with different keywords. • The form requires precise information on the meeting which is submitted for CME-certification: • Date, venue, length • Schedule • Medical head and speakers • Degree of sponsoring • Please note: • Every promoter has to ensure the independence and freedom from economic interests of the event he has submitted for certification.
