  9. Activity Background:You are an educational consultant. The head of a school district has asked you to evaluate an upcoming program* aimed at improving 21st century skills. The school year has just ended and you have two months before school resumes to develop an evaluation strategy that will accompany the pilot year of the program. You have significant resources at your disposal and the advantage of receiving the assignment before the program has been implemented. You also have the benefit of working with a principal who is flexible to your proposal.

  10. Activity Given this context, how would you design an evaluation to determine if this program really improves 21st century skills?*For this exercise, you can either use one of the examples we have provided or use an intervention of your choice that addresses 21st century skills, as per Pellegrino’s categorization (cognitive, intrapersonal, interpersonal). Imagine that a school district head has come to you before they implement a program very similar to the one from your example.

  11. Activity • Use these examples as a rough template upon which you can base your discussion about evaluation. • Cognitive (problem solving, digital literacy, etc.): Quest to Learn http://www.instituteofplay.org/work/projects/quest-to-learn, Digital Youth Network http://www.instituteofplay.org/work/projects/quest-to-learn • Interpersonal (international exchange programs, global awareness): Center for International Education Exchange http://www.ciee.org/high-school-study-abroad/ • Intrapersonal (self reflection, personal development): Advancing Girls Education in Africa--Career Guidance Programhttp://www.ageafrica.org/career-guidance/ • Or find something here! • http://www.edutopia.org/
