  2. If optometry alone could make Eye See…Eye Learn a reality in Canada…it would have happened long ago!

  3. HOW TO make your province Eye See…Eye Learn Friendly! ESEL is a program that was designed to raise awareness of government, parents, teachers and other providers about the importance of eye health and the strong correlation between vision and learning.

  4. Let’s see the results! • 452 children were examined (44%) • 84% of the children were > 60 mos. of age • 6% were prescribed spectacles • 8% were diagnosed with a binocular vision/accommodative problem • 14% of the children were identified with some form of a vision problem

  5. How do you make your province EYE SEE…EYE LEARNfriendly?

PHASE IDefine Your Realities • In your province are eye exams for children funded through the private or publicly funded system? • Who are your potential partners who would/could/might support an initiative to raise awareness about eye health • What other programs are already being offered which have an eye health component? • Does/will your membership support and participate in an Eye See…Eye Learn initiative? Is the support full or conditional?

  9. Form a WORKING GROUP! Your target group will determine the mix of your working group

  10. Questions that need to be addressed ! • Is a pilot an appropriate starting point? • Is funding a challenge? • Is government support key to your success?

  11. Be prepared for Phase I and II to take from 6 - 12 months !
