Preschool Intervention Program (P.I.P.)Funded by Nadia Anne Mirel Internship FundChrystyna Colón ‘15 Preschool Intervention Program (PIP) in Norristown, PA is a therapeutic center- based program designed to meet the needs of children who have severe behavioral, social, and emotional difficulties. The programs has a play-based, structured setting, where children participate in individual and group activities designed to enhance self-esteem, develop coping and problem- solving abilities, and improve interactions with peers and adults. PIP offers a range of specialized therapeutic services and activities to responds to each child’s individual needs. The treatment team includes a child psychiatrist, psychologist, and other trained professionals. Internship Duties: Participate with the children in therapeutic activities in order to facilitate and model Provide feedback to staff regarding observation of child’s play, interaction mood, and behavior Prepare activities for an individual child or small group Attend at least 1 weekly session of clinical rounds Review children’s charts including psychiatric evaluation Become familiar with treatment plans, progress notes, and behavioral reinforcement system Observe an intake meeting with a family and the admission coordinator Supervisor: Karen Allen, karena@centralmhmr.org
