  2. Joe Joe, an experienced product manager, salesman, and draftsman came to New Century Careers after being laid off numerous times. Joe was looking for a career change that would offer him a stable job in an environment he has always enjoyed. After seeing an advertisement in the Pittsburgh Business Times, Joe knew that New Century Careers was a great option. Since the start of his MANUFACTURING 2000 machinist training, Joe excelled quickly. Joe was able to complete all projects and training levels in a shorter amount of time than anyone else in the program. Although New Century Careers only offers three NIMs Credentials, Joe earned four. Joe became such an asset in helping to assist new students and was praised by staff and peers that he was hired by New Century Careers to be an assistant instructor. Even when Joe was not assistant teaching, he still came to class to further his skills and help other students. After weeks of continuous interviews, Joe was hired by Sloan Brothers. Sloan Brothers was so impressed with Joe and the skills that he learned through MANUFACTURING 2000 that they signed a member agreement. Despite securing a full time job, Joe still attends Saturday CNC class and acts as a substitute instructor when needed.

  3. Sharon Sharon, a MANUFACTURING 2000 student has both a passion for people and a passion for working with her hands. Sharon is a laid off school bus driver/dispatcher who found New Century Careers through CareerLinks while looking for a change. Sharon loves working to build and put things together and has the desire to work in a company which aids in building America. Not only is Sharon excelling through MANUFACTURING 2000 gaining new skills, but she has also created a relationship with each of the other students. Sharon wants to see her peers succeed as much as she wants to herself. Sharon was hired on-the-spot at Dura-Metal. Sharon is so excited that she now has health insurance through Dura-Metal and cannot wait to begin her new career.

  4. Ron S. After being laid off multiple times from numerous plants Ron needed a change. He came to the MANUFACTURING 2000 program with the hopes of a new career pathway. Ron’s references described him as passionate, dedicated, and dependable and they could not have been more correct. Ron was always on time and completely committed to his training. Ron worked endlessly during the day to learn new skills and continually searched for employment at night. After many interviews and never giving up, Ron got hired with a company in Robinson Township, PA.

  5. Shawn As a laid off truck driver, Shawn needed a fresh start. He had spent ten years of his life traveling the country and was ready to stop moving. With only having a manufacturing background of high school industrial arts and mechanical drawing, Shawn excitedly applied for MANUFACTURING 2000. The critical thinking skills Shawn learned while on the road helped him quickly excel through the program. Instructors noted that Shawn has, “a good pair of hands” and an excellent attitude. Shawn has been an eager learner and helpful leader. Shawn was immediately placed within one of our partner companies, Dura-Metal and now because of an agreement with the National Tooling and Machining Association he was able to skip year one of the apprenticeship and start as a second year student.

  6. Ron G. Ron was a high school graduate who was not interested in a traditional four-year education. He excelled in high school robotics programs, and completed the M2K program ahead of schedule. After earning two NIMS industry credentials, Ron joined Chelsea-Building’s manufacturing team. Ron was accepted into the NTMA Apprenticeship program where he continues to succeed.

  7. Adam • After working as a general laborer and being exposed to the manufacturing industry at WojanisHydraulic Supply Company, Adam knew that he wanted to become a machinist. Adam has an extraordinary attention to detail which gives him great precision. While training with MANUFACTURING 2000 for over 500 hours, earning numerous NIMs Industry Credentials and planning his own wedding, Adam has always kept his eye on the goal of obtaining an exceptional career. Instructors admire his attitude and are confident that he will be easily placed within a partner company.

  8. Atcha • With a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering and Engineering in Training Certificate, Atcha wanted to learn more. Atcha had no background in machining yet was eager to give it a try. Atcha has the desire to gain hands-on experience while making real-world mechanical parts and tools. Atcha trains at New Century Careers while going to school to earn his MBA. Despite having a heavy work-load, he remains positive and attentive. With endless compliments from instructors, Atcha has trained for over 450 hours and earned three NIMs Industry Credentials. With his great attitude and uplifting spirit, Atcha will surely be placed within one of our partner companies.

  9. Warren • Warren has a substantial amount of manufacturing experience. As an industrial engineer, Warren worked with numerous companies as a production, operation and warehouse supervisor. Warren has great leadership skills and loves working for the industry. After multiple layoffs, Warren went to his local CareerLink to find options. Because of his background and interest in machining, Warren was directed to New Century Careers and the MANUFACTURING 2000 machinist training program. Warren has excelled immensely and loves the feeling of creating and increasing productivity. Warren has finished his first 250 hours of training but continues to learn more while looking for employment.

  10. Milon • Milon, native of Bhutan, came to America looking for opportunities in the manufacturing and technology fields. With ample science education in Nepal, Milon was excited to start his machinist training. Instructors say that Milon has great confidence and is able to pick up and adapt to new concepts and processes very quickly. He is a fast and enthusiastic learner. As a MANUFACTURING 2000 student, Milon understands what it takes to be a machinist and will surely be easily placed within one of our partner companies.

  11. Kevin MANUFACTURING 2000 has given many individuals a second chance. Kevin, a former undercover detective and decorated Pittsburgh police officer needed a fresh start. After a successful career, Kevin made a couple of mistakes which resulted in incarceration. He entered the M2K program looking for a new beginning and a way to provide for his family. Kevin successfully completed M2K in April 2013, and was hired as a machinist within a member company. He began the NTMA apprenticeship program as a part of his position and because of an agreement between New Century Careers and the NTMA, was able to place out of year one.

  12. Andrew With experience in Solid-Works from the University of Pittsburgh and Auto-Cad, drafting, and welding experience in high school, Andrew had the dream of becoming a fabricator. Andrew joined the MANUFACTURING 2000 night class at the end of 2012. Andrew’s instructors described him as a hard worker who would go above and beyond to learn more on his own. Andrew made the best of all situations and was always willing to help other students. After completing 400 hours of training and earning three NIMs Industry Credentials, Andrew interviewed with Oberg. Oberg was so impressed that they quickly hired him and enrolled him in their apprentice program. Andrew has expressed how pleased he is with the training he received and how happy he is about his new career.

  13. Nelson • Nelson had a passion for machining since taking machine shop class in high school. As a seasonal construction worker, Nelson wanted something more stable. In the winter of 2012, Nelson decided that there was no better time to start training for something else, something he was very interested in. Nelson attended MANUFACTURING 2000 during the evening and always arrived early, prepared to work and ready learn. Despite high school being a decade ago, Nelson’s strength in precision measuring shined. He was able to pull from past construction and machining experience to excel in class. Nelson was hired on-the-spot immediately following an interview. In October 2013 Nelson joined two other MANUFACTURING 2000 graduates at Dura-Metal Products Corporation. Congrats Nelson!

  14. Melissa • Melissa is on the fast track for success with MANUFACTURING 2000. Melissa holds a colorful past of setbacks and successes. While spending time incarcerated Melissa decided to turn her life around and explore courses in machinery. Melissa received a machinery certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and numerous certificates from TPC (on-line) Training Systems. Now, as a MANUFACTURING 2000 student, Melissa is excelling at great rates. She is a fast and eager learner who has put her life on the right track. She is learning valuable lessons through training and will be easily placed within one of our partner companies.

  15. Ryan Springer Ryan, a MANUFACTURING 2000 student from Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center in Latrobe, excelled from the beginning of his training. A former Honor Roll student at Triangle Tech with degrees in HAVAC and CADD was unable to find a satisfying career and worked for the past ten years as a cook. Upon introduction to MANUFACTURING 2000 by CareerLinks, Ryan’s excitement and hard work shined. Instructors praised his attitude and ability to see the “big picture”. After attending a field trip to Stellar Precision, Ryan was extremely impressed and interested in applying. Immediately after completing level 1 of MANUFACTURING 2000 in August 2013, Ryan applied to Stellar and received a position. Ryan is earning more as a machinist than as a cook and has an immense opportunity to advance and excel.

  16. Vince Vince always had a knack for working with his hands. The previous owner of a martial arts studio and jewelry maker was connected with New Century Careers through CareerLinks, hoping to make use of his various skills. With his concentration and attention to detail, Vince knows that machining is in his future. Vince received over 450 MANUFACTURING 2000 training hours at the Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center in Latrobe, PA. Through MANUFACTURING 2000 Vince proudly earned numerous industry credentials which helps to make him more marketable. While consistently looking for a job and interviewing, Vince continues his machinist training optimistic that he will soon find employment.
