  2. What is Validity and Reliability? Validity Reliability • Assessment tasks themselves can never be valid or invalid: it is the assessment-based inferences we make that are valid or invalid (Killen, R. 2005) • Consistency of assessment information. Demonstration of the concept must occur more than once, enabling comparison and making of judgments (Airasian, P.W. 1991). • In order to be valid, assessment must be reliable; but reliability does not guarantee validity

  3. What Affected the Assessment? • Students’ Learning Styles • Disruption: Sports practice • Time: single and various assessments • Resources: Unable to measure • Environment: Noise from lawn mower

What Could A Teacher Do? • Improve Validity: • Content validity — How • well do test items cover a • body of knowledge and • skill? • Predictive validity — How • well does a test score • predicts later performance? • Construct validity — How • accurately does a test • measure a theoretical • attribute? • (Snowman, Dobozy, Scevak, Bartlett, Bryer, & Biehler, 2009) • Improve Reliability: • The number of items • Difficulty of the items • Test item discrimination • Opportunity for guessing • The wording of the items • and instructions • Environment • Interpretations of students’ • answer • Clarity and completeness of • marking guides • (Killen, R. 2005)
