  1. INTERNET AND ITS TECHNOLOGY HISTORY OF INTERNET Internet had birth in early 1960s when at RAND Corporation. Later MIS(masschuetsinstitute of technology) started first networking experiments in 1965. later in 1968 Department of Defence of united states, Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA) came up with the proposal to develop ARPANET, the first Network, ARPA transformed into NSFNET(National science foundation NET) in 1990s.

  2. Definition of internet Internet can be defined as international network, of computers i.e., it is that network which connects the computers all over the globe across International Territories. One can even define internet as a network of networks i.e.. It can be taken as a network which connects networks across the world.

  3. Services provided by Internet • Electronic Mail (e-mail) • World Wide Web • Telnet • File Transfer Protocol (FTP) • Internet Telephone

  4. Electronic Mail (e-mail) • Distributes e-mail messages and attached files to one or more electronic mailboxes. • Eg:- e-mail addresses ahmed@hotmail.com.in yuusuf@gmail.com

  6. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) This protocol is used for transfer of files between computers. This protocol is very powerful tool for transfer of files.

  7. Telnet This protocol is which is used to connect to another computer. This process is called remote login. The computer which makes the call for connection is known as local computer and the computer which accepts the connection is known as remote computer or hosts.

  8. Web Browser for retrieving the data from the internet, users require an interface, which links the computer and the human being, where user can give his request and interact with other computers. For this purpose we use a special software which popularly known as Browser, which acts as an interface for the internet.

  9. A client software which is used to render web pages. Internet Explorer Mozilla Firefox Windows Chrome Netscape Navigator Mosaic

  10. What is web page? • Web page : Single disk file with a single file name. • Home page : First page of a website • Web site: A collection of one or more web pages

  11. What is Web Server? • A system on the internet containing one or more web sites. • It a software which enabling Internet services. Personal Web Server (PWS) Internet Information Server (IIS) Apache Server Tomcat Server
