  4. What is in a CAL for OCS 2007 R2? Rule of thumb: IM/Presence/Chat = Standard CAL Conferencing = Enterprise CAL Voice = Enterprise CAL

  5. Who Needs A CAL in R2? We are changing the requirement for CAL as stated in the PUR. You do not need CALs for unauthenticated access to your instances of the server software. Authenticated (direct or indirect) through Active Directory access requires CALs. • Implications: • CAL required for internal users. CAL not required for external users. • External Connectors are largely unnecessary • Scenarios: • CAL Required: • For OCS voice extensions • For internal users organizing or attending a web conference • For IM identities hosted on the OCS Server • CAL Not Required: • For users receiving a call from an extension hosted on the OCS Server • For Non OCS users placing a call to an extension hosted on the OCS Server • For public network or federated users with an OCS user • For external users attending a web conference * unless they are authenticating via Active Directory.

Customer decides on High Availability and number of seats covered.
