  1. October 4, 2006 Dear Canadian Studies, Thank you for all your help in organizing and supporting our transboundary course for 2006. I know for the eleven students from the University of Washington that this was an incredible voyage of discovery. The final workshop at UBC was a wonderful opportunity for them to integrate and challenge what they had seen and done the previous six days. Our trip across northern Washington and southern British Columbia and our discussion with over thirty different people ranging from the Superintendent of North Cascades National Park to the head of the Osoyoos Cultural Centre provided us an incredible wealth of information and perspective on a wide range of environmental issues facing land management agencies, aboriginal people and various stakeholders through this region -- shared problems, across jurisdictional, agency, disciplinary and psychological boundaries, were a constant reminder of how collaboration might, can, does and does not work. The pictures that surround this letter capture a small proportion of the people and landscapes we immersed ourselves in. We enjoyed a wide range of learning opportunities and styles -- from lectures and group discussions to individual and small group explorations. All in all, the focus on the problems and issues as interpreted and displayed by a particular place turned out to be a very effective way of learning. Thank you for your personal attention and help.
