  3. Points to Note • Is the law holy or unholy? (12) • Holy • Paul calls us slaves in verse 14. To what were we slaves? To whom were we slaves? • We were slaves to sin and Satan

  14. Terms we must know • Old Adam a.k.a. sinful nature= • the part of me that wants to sin and follow the devil to hell. • New Man = • the part of a Christian that wants to do what God wants us to do. • Redeem = • to buy back

  15. What has Christ done for us? • Hebrews 9:15 “For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”

For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. 11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. • Set free from the devil.

From what have I been Redeemed? • Romans 6:3-6 “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.  5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—

  28. From what have I been Redeemed? • I have been redeemed from sin, death and the power of the devil in order to live my life to God’s glory.

  29. What does this mean for me every day? • Galatians 5:17 “For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

What does this mean for me every day? • 2 Corinthians 5:14-17 “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.  16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

  32.   33. What does this mean for me every day? • Philippians 2:13 “for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”

  34. What does this mean for me every day? • Philippians 2:13 “for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” • God enables and motivates me to want to do his will.

  35. What does this mean for me every day? • As a child of God struggle daily with my Old Adam. By God’s grace I win. When I fail I’m forgiven.

  36. What is the problem? • I don’t want to go to church/ do my homework/ mow the lawn. • The struggle between the Old Man and New Man
