  3. Habitat • Pygmy hippos live in West Africa. They enjoy swamps, rivers and river sides as homes. Unfortunately, their numbers are decreasing continually. This is why, most of the hippos live in zoos.

  4. They have a barreled shaped body and head. It’s snout is the same shape. The small hippo’s legs are short and pudgy, but then become thin near the foot. Their feet are webbed and help it swim, considering their life is just lounging in water. They weigh up to 350-600 pounds and are 30-39 inches high. Physical Characteristics

  5. Life of the pygmy hippo • The pygmy hippo lives up to 40-45 years of age. They give live birth in water and the baby stays with the mom for about 6-8 months. The hippo claims territory by pooping and spreading it as far as they can, by rapidly whipping their tail back and forth.

  6. Predators of the pygmy hippo are monitor lizards and crocodiles. Humans also count as a predator, because they and hunt and eat the pygmy hippo. They taste like beef. As we are moving into their homes, they are moving out and are dying off. They like to eat roots, grass, chutes, and fruits. If needed, the pygmy hippo will stand on its back legs to reach food. Predators and diet of the pygmy hippo

  7. Misfit facts • The mother hippo will attack a male hippo if its aggressive near her baby. • The pygmy hippo can hold its breath under water longer then 5 min. • The small hippo will go under water when threatened

  8. The pygmy hippo helps the circle of life, by eating the veggies and algae in the water. That way, it clears the way for other animals to get to the water. With out them, many animals would die off; and for some, that means going extinct. Ecosystem

  9. The pygmy hippo is a unique species, with its unusual shape and features. It contributes to our world, but is sadly going extinct. If you would like to help keep this fascinating creature around, please contact; www.pygmyhippofoundation.org conclusion
