  1. Instructor Presence in MOOCs The focus is on how the instructor creates a connection with students in an online course with many students. It might be interesting to contrast how instructors create connections in a large lecture course vs. a MOOC. What techniques were used in 8.02x to create a sense that students know the instructors and the instructors were guiding instruction?

  2. Staff Who interact with Discussions • Prof. Walter Lewin (~1 hr/day) • Dr. George Stephans (~10-15 hrs/week) • GTA: AgataWisniowska (~5hrs/week) • GTA: Peter Montag (~5hrs/week) • UROP: Maita Esteban (~5hrs/week) • UROP: Thomas Villalon (~3hrs/week) • UROP: Troy Welton (~3hrs/week) • Dr Saif Rayyan (~2hrs/week) Some staff respond to questions in languages other than English (e.g. Spanish) Numbers are estimates for steady state (not including the 2 weeks at the beginning, in which George and Saif spent significantly more time on Discussions)
