  2. Faculty In-Service, 2013 Ignatian Training Patient Trust in Ourselves and the Slow Work of God Middle • Above all, trust in the slow work of God. Left • We are quite naturally impatient in everything to reach the end without delay. We would like to skip the intermediate stages. We are impatient of being on the way to something unknown, something new. Right • And yet, it is the law of all progress that it is made by passing through some stages of instability – and that it may take a very long time. Middle • And so I think it is with you; your ideas mature gradually – let them grow, let them shape themselves, without undue haste. Right • Don’t try to force them on, as though you could be today what time, (that is to say, grace and circumstances acting on your own good will) will make of you tomorrow. Left • Only God could say what this new spirit gradually forming in you will be. ALL • Give our Lord the benefit of believing that his hand is leading you, and accept the anxiety of feeling yourself in suspense and incomplete. Teilhard de Chardin, S.J. 1881 - 1955

Faculty In-Service, 2013 Ignatian Training Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius? • Week 1 • God's unconditional, ever-faithful love. • Sin: our failure and the failure of the human family to respond with love to God's love. • God's ever-greater love, mercy and forgiveness. • Week 2 • The person and life of Christ. • Our call to discipleship, ministry &friendship with Jesus. • Knowing Christ more intimately, loving Him more ardently, following him more faithfully. • Week 3: • The ultimate expression of God's love. • The suffering and death of Jesus for us. • Week 4: • The victory of Jesus over death. • His sharing His joy with us. • Being missioned by Jesus. • Being empowered by His Spirit.

The One who calls us to serve others. • Vision. We try to grasp the big picture: the reign of God is breaking into our world. • Exercising. We do things – not for others but with them. We do them with Jesus. • Reflecting. We observe where God is at work and where he is absent. • Valuing. We clarify the values present in a situation and ask Jesus to shape them. • Choosing. We reflect on the possible courses of action and choose what seems better. • Discerning. We listen to the language of our hearts. • More. We strive to do the better thing out of love for God. • Laboring. We collaborate with Christ in the Work of redeeming and healing the world. • Thanking. All is gift. Thanksgiving permeates our lives.
