  1. Internet of Things in Health care -gowtham Nallamothu

  2. Presentation Outline • What is IoT in Health care ? • Examples of IoT in Healthcare • Applications of IoT in Healthcare • Current trends and examples • Challenges of IoT in Healthcare • Conclusion

  3. IoT in Healthcare is a heterogeneous computing, wirelessly communicating system of applications and devices that connects patients and health providers to diagnose, monitor, track and store vital statistics and medical information.

  4. Examples of IoT in Health care • Various Monitors -BP monitors, glucose monitors, sleep monitors, Infant monitors etc • Sensors embedded in medical equipment

  5. Wearable Technologies - Smartwatch, On-body Monitoring, smart shoes, etc.

  6. Applications of Iot in Health care • Remote Monitoring • Early intervention/ prevention • Clinical care

  7. Remote monitoring • People all over the world whose health • May suffer because they don’t have ready • access to effective health monitoring. But small, • powerful wireless solutions connected • through the IoT are now making it possible • for monitoring to come to these patients • These solutions can be used to securely • capture patient health data from a variety • of sensors, apply complex algorithms to • analyze the data and then share it through wireless connectivity with medical professionals who can make appropriate health recommendations.

  8. Few example devices for Remote Monitoring:- 1. Blood pressure Monitors 2. Glucose level Monitors 3. Fitness Monitors 4. Sleep Monitors

  9. Clinical CAre • Hospitalized patients whose physiological status requires close attention can be constantly monitored using IoT-driven, noninvasive monitoring. This type of solution employs sensors to collect comprehensive physiological information and uses gateways and the cloud to analyze and store the information and then send the analyzed data wirelessly to caregivers for further analysis and review. • It replaces the process of having a health professional come by at regular intervals to check the patient’s vital signs, instead providing a continuous automated flow of information. In this way, it simultaneously improves the quality of care through constant attention and lowers the cost of care by eliminating the need for a caregiver to actively engage in data collection and analysis.

  10. Few examples devices of clinical care: 1. Smart beds 2. Infant monitoring

  11. Current TrenDs and Examples • HealbeGobe - https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/healbe-gobe-the-only- way-to-automatically-measure-calorie-intake#/

  12. Google’s smart contact lens -https://googleblog.blogspot.com/2014/01/introducing-our-smart-contact-lens.html

  13. Challenges • Integration - various gadgets and devices • Security - data transmission, misuse of data • Analytics -need of sophisticated analytical algorithms

  14. Conclusion • The Internet of Things is rapidly starting to weave into healthcare on both the doctor and patient fronts. Wearable devices, glucose monitors, electrocardiograms, and many more are all starting to become connected and letting patients track their health. • The IoT in healthcare is has decreased costs, improved disease management, reduced errors, enhanced patient experience, improved outcomes of treatment. • The way healthcare will be administered to people is going to change forever. More and more advancements in this field are happening each day.
