  1. ANISOMETROPIA Dr Cynthia arunachalamProfessor and HeadDept of ophthalmologyYenepoya Medical CollegeYenepya university

  2. Anisometropia • Equal refraction in the two eyes is isometropia • Unequal refraction in the two eyes is anisometropia • 1D difference = 2% difference in size of images • 2.5 D anisometropia = 5% aniseikonia can be tolerated • Maximum – 4D = 8% aniseikonia

  3. Etiology • Congenital & developmental • Acquired uniocularaphakia IOL power undercorrected /overcorrected trauma refractive surgery

  4. Clinical types • Simple anisometropia • Compound anisometropia • Mixed anisometropia • Simple astigmatic anisometropia • Compound astigmatic anisometropia

  5. Effects of anisometropia • Binocular single vision • Uniocular vision – anisometropic amblyopia • Alternate vision

  6. Treatment • Spectacles – up to 4 D • Contact lens - >4 D anisometropia • Aniseikonic glasses • Surgery – IOL implantation Phakic IOL • Refractive Corneal Surgery
