  2. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective Corridor V as beingagreed at the Helsinki conference in 1997 whenthewhole set of Pan European Transport Corridorswasagreedupon Focus on Corridor V Boris ŽIVEC PublicAgencyofthe RepublicofSloveniafor Railway Transport

  3. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective By the decision on Priority Projects the corridor V was extended to Lyon. That finally might give us the following image of important interconnections of the Corridor V in the region Focus on Corridor V Boris ŽIVEC PublicAgencyofthe RepublicofSloveniafor Railway Transport

  4. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective Nowadays, by the regulation of the European Parliament and the Council on Railway network for freight competitiveness the rail part of Corridor was even extended to Almeira and Valencia in Spain. The similar development might be indicated on all important transport axes throughout EU all aimed to raise the importance of the railway transportand increased development of co-modatlity. In parallel to above efforts by the glance of the EUROSTAT figures we are faced with the following situation. 7. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective Bearing in mind the above statistics with the forecast of particular countries of global importance GDP forecastwhat is an indicator of prospective transport growth. 8. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective When having in mind the foreseen development of transport infrastrucuture inAsian countries and movement of industry in these countries to the continental site Focus on Corridor V Boris ŽIVEC PublicAgencyofthe RepublicofSloveniafor Railway Transport

  9. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective With additional consideration of the energy dilemmas and environmental constrains, there is a high time, and the time of financial crises when the economic activities slow down, might give a necessary time for reconsideration and consequently more complex development of the possible sustainable future transport sector Focus on Corridor V Source – Statisticalpocketbook 2011 – DG MOVE Boris ŽIVEC PublicAgencyofthe RepublicofSloveniafor Railway Transport

  10. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective To achieve higher level of inter- or better to say co-modality on the alignment of the Corridor V, where by majority the road transport infrastructure is in place to satisfy the needs when the co-modality is assured, stronger focus on rail transport is essential. Particularly when having in mind all the environmental constrains and the urgent need for rational use of energy. In this line the outcomes of the Strategic study for the Development of Pan-European Corridor 5 completed in May 2007 with particular impacts on Republic of Slovenia and Region of Friuly – VeneciaGulia might be significant Focus on Corridor V Boris ŽIVEC PublicAgencyofthe RepublicofSloveniafor Railway Transport

  11. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective Some Slovenian experiences on impact of investments in transport infrastructure to the national GDP; 1. Investments in the Republic of Slovenia has increased for around 8% annually, 2. Without these investments the growth of GDP would be around 1% lower and at that time we had e. g in years from 1994 to 1999 the following GDP growth; 5,3; 4,1; 3,5; 4,6; 3,8; and 4,9 3. Investments in transport sector resulted in increased employment for 0,7% that present around 4000 new working places annually, 4. Effect of investments on inflation rate was around 0,07% 5. Final consumption for this intensive investments was higher for around 1,25% annually. Boris ŽIVEC Public Agencyof the Republic of Slovenia for Railway Transport

  12. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective Future development of the Corridor V extended with all further projects from the Priority Project, ERTMS Corridor to the Rail corridor for competitive freight and finally to the prospective TEN –T Corridor should be focused primarily on rail sector when of particular interest might be also the development of all branches of the original definition of Corridor V. Boris ŽIVEC Public Agencyof the Republic of Slovenia for Railway Transport

  13. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective Area of non-congruence: RNE Corridor but no ERNCF ERNCF but no RNE Corridor Area of non-congruence: RNE Corridor but no ERNCF ERNCF but no RNE Corridor This map presents the RNE Corridors (where the tools, methods and processes are developed) with indication of the corridors by the Regulation. At least we have indicated that the mayoritiy of corridors are overlaping. So by closer and intensive cooperation we might support the implementation of the corridors by the Regulation. 14. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective The most interesting and even desired tools developed by the IM and AB together with the RNE Joint Office staff are: Train information system (TIS) (former Europtirails) Path Coordination system (former Pathfinder) Click and Ride Boris ŽIVEC Public Agencyof the Republic of Slovenia for Railway Transport

  15. Pan-Europeaninter-modalcorridors as opportunitiesforregionaldevelopmentfromananti-crisisperspective Hoping that the present situation on Corridor V where by road it takes you from Maribor to Budapest 3 hours and 40 minutes, by rails it takes you 6 hours 26 minutes to 8 hours and 59 minutes, will at least for my successor be improved, I would like to Thank you for your patience Boris ŽIVEC Public Agencyof the Republic of Sloveniafor Railway Transport
