GLADNET History • Early on, ILO recognized need for vehicle for information exchange among members • October 1994 – questionnaire sent to disability organizations to ascertain the need of an organization such as GLADNET • February, 1995 - meeting of what was to become GLADNET was held at the ILO. It was attended by 53 organizations at their own expense • 1997 -- GLADNET constituted as an international NGO at its annual general meeting. First elected Chair, Dr. Aldred Neufeldt, University of Calgary, Canada. • Today, GLADNET has a world-wide network representing a select group that have committed themselves to creating and working for the vitality of a new kind of virtual organization.

GLADMail Network Survey • In the fall of 2004, the GLADNET Executive Board designed a survey to gather input from the GLADNET network about GLADNET activities now and in the future.  • The survey was distributed on October 28, 2004 in anelectronic format to the 618 email addresses on the GLADMail list.  • At the end of this two-week period, a total of 45 respondents of the 618 in the GLADMail network listing (7%).  • The following is a summary of the major themes fromthe information gathered from these survey results.

GLADMail Network Survey Results • GLADNET website rated most important activity • GLADMail network members most often looking for published research articles • Currently, most often consult Google or other online search engines, publicly available electronic databases, and subscription databases • 80% would use a customized service provided by GLADNET to identify current research and publications on specific topics • Majority of respondents willing to pay nothing or no more than $100/year for such service

GLADMail Network Survey Results (cont) • Members most often felt GLADNET should meet once a year • Theme of meeting was very important in decision to attend • Location of meeting also very important • Proximity to other global disability conferences or events also a factor in deciding to attend • Cost of attendance an important factor
