  11. What does TMU West do? • Coordinate and implement all regional Traffic Management Initiatives (Winnipeg and West) • Focal point for regional stakeholder Communication/Collaboration

  12. Traffic Management Initiatives Tactical Options: • In-Trail Spacing or Airborne Holding • Call For Release (CFR) • during periods of short-term excess demand • Ground Delay Program (GDP) • during period of sustained excess demand

  13. Collaboration • Strategic Planning • Equipment • Weather • Other Constraints • Customer Requirements and Priorities • Ground vs Airborne Delays • Managing high priority flights • Missed Departure times • Balancing safety and efficiency

  14. History—CYYC Metering The objectives of the Calgary Metering Project : • Improve Service Delivery by reducing the use of tactical airborne holding associated with CYYC arrivals • Reduce Overall System Delays for CYYC Arrivals Challenges • Airport Capacity • Scheduled vs non-scheduled-unpredictable departure times

  15. Vancouver Customer Forum • First Customer Forum well attended • Next Forum Spring 2011

  16. Vancouver Airspace Review PHASE I • Completed 2007 • Redesign of IFR arrival routes. PHASE II • Completed July 2009 • Redesign of VFR airspace • Increase in safety for commercial floatplane operations • Increased capacity for several control zones • Protection of airspace for IFR routes

  20. YVR Tower: Intersection Departures • Intersection Departure Rules • All aircraft are issued threshold departures unless: • The flight is a MEDEVAC. • The flight has a flow time. • There are no other aircraft waiting at the threshold. • Improved safety • Went from third highest Runway Incursions in Canada to 13th

  21. YVR Tower: Glide Path Protection • NAV CANADA and YVR Airport have made a significant investment to move the glide path shacks closer to the runway to improve the hold lines and still ensure the glide path is protected in all weather conditions.

  22. GLIDE PATH PROTECTION Old Hold Lines Glide Path Shacks New Hold Lines Due to Glide Slope Shack Rearrangement New Hold Lines Before Glide Path Relocation
