  1. Going To School In Australia (For Amaya)

  2. Bonjour Amaya ! • We learn French at Beaumaris. We have made this Powerpoint Presentation for you. • School in Australia must be different to school in France. • We hope you like our slideshow.

  3. Introduction • In Australia every child goes to school. We go to school 5 days a week, from 8.30am to 3pm. • There are lots of schools in Australia and each school has their own uniform. In our school, Beaumaris Primary we all wear a yellow t-shirt, grey skirt or shorts and a grey sweater. On sports day we wear a coloured t-shirt to show which faction (team) we are. They are: blue, green, red or purple. • Here in Beaumaris there are at least 700-800 students. (The size of a school can between 200-1000 students) • Our school has about 25 classes and there are one, two or even three teachers in each class.

  4. Class 8

  5. Subjects Here are a list of subjects we have to do: • Sport and physical education • French • Maths (number, problem solving, space and measurement) • English • Art – visual and drama • Music (some students are in the school band, choir or play an instrument) • Geography • History • Science • Writing • Handwriting

  6. A Day at School • School starts at 8:30 in the morning. • We go to our classroom. • Sometimes we run around the oval in the mornings for exercise. • We usually do spelling and maths in the mornings • Then we have recess for 25 minutes. We eat and play with our friends. • Next we do English. • Then we have lunch. We can go to the canteen for lunch and play on the playground. Lots of people like to play sport on the oval. • We will do sport, art or French in the afternoon. We also do science, geography or history too. • When the final bell rings at 3:00, we can go home!

  7. Things We do in Beaumaris • In Beaumaris we have special activities we do yearly. These things include: • Easter Fair • Public holidays • Christmas fete • Faction carnival – where we compete at running and other sports. • Once a week a class performs an assembly for the school. • Productions – like a play or musical • School bands • We get holidays 4 times a year. The summer holiday is the longest at 6 weeks.

  8. Where is Beaumaris • Beaumaris is in Western Australia (we call it W.A) • Beaumaris is near the beach. It is 20 km north of our capital city, Perth.

  9. Perth and Australia Perth is on the Swan River. It is called that because we have black swans! This is a picture of the city Perth. Perth is in W.A.

  10. Australia This is a map of Australia. The different colours show different states. The big yellow one is Western Australia, the orange one is Northern Territory, the green one is Queensland, the red one is South Australia and the smaller green one is Victoria, the small yellow one is New South Wales and the little island is Tasmania. We live here

  11. Awards • At our school we work hard to win awards, we try hard to win badges to sew on our uniforms. • If you win badges you might get to go on a camp for a week. • We can earn badges for doing well in class, for sports, art, music and helping others. • Each week a student in our will earn a Merit Certificate as a reward for something good they did.

  12. Our Class • Our class has two grades. (Year 4 and Year 5). We have the same teacher for 2 years. We are 9 and 10 years old. • There are 28 students in our class. • We have 2 teachers. Mrs Roussel teaches Monday to Wednesday, and Mrs Brierley teaches Thursday and Friday. • On the next few slides there are some pictures are of our class. You will see that we use computers a lot. Mrs Roussel teaches using a Smartboard and her laptop computer. • We still use our pens and books, but in some schools in Perth each student has their own laptop!
