  2. The one thing all children have in common is their rights. Every child has the right to survive and thrive, to be educated, to be free from violence and abuse, to participate and to be heard. Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon

  3. November 20th • The date 20 November, marks the day on which the Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in 1989. • Nearly 25 years ago, the world made a promise to children: that we would do everything in our power to protect and promote their rights to survive and thrive, to learn and grow, to make their voices heard and to reach their full potential. • November 20th is a day which is celebrated in over 90 countries worldwide.

  4. What are the rights of a child? • The right to……

  6. Challenges we face globally However, old challenges have combined with new problems to deprive many children of their rights and the benefits of development. What are these? There is much to celebrate as we mark the 25th anniversary of the Convention, from declining infant mortality to rising school enrolment, but too many children still do not enjoy their full rights on par with their peers.

  7. Universal Children’s Day • Childhood is one of life's greatest pleasures. • This #ChildrensDay let's make the world a better place for children. • Look at the following video clip and think about the difference of your life compared to that of the children shown. • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWf-eARnf6U

  8. Heal the World • Heal the World is a song about love, care and need. Michael Jackson sings to appeal to people to give their love and care to the children who are suffering from wars and poverty, making the world a better and warmer place to live. • In a 2001 Internet chat with fans, Jackson said "Heal the World" is the song he was most proud to have created. He also created the Heal the World Foundation, a charitable organization which was designed to improve the lives of children and teach children how to help others. • Jackson also donated the song to be used as the anthem for the charity the James Bulger Red Balloon Centre, a school for children to go to if they are being bullied or have learning difficulties.
