Emp.  Ottoman Sultan to begin rounding up & killing Armenians B. 1908: Young Turk Party overthrows Sultan, Armenians hopeful 1. Young Turks led by PM Tallat Pasha, War Minister Enver Pasha and Interior Minister Djemal Pasha; 1914 Young Turks join Cent. Powers C. Russia beats Ottomans in several battles, many Russia Armenians join Russian army 1. Enver considers all Armenians traitors 2. Enver & Tallat Pasha order deportation of all Armenians a. Armenians sent into desert and are ambushed and killed in deportation caravans b. Over 1.5 mill. Armenians killed by Ottomans * Today, Turkey denies charge of genocide, which is planned killing of a group of people
