History • Founded in 1887: 126 years old • WVU ranks in the top 10% of 284national universities for recruiting and graduating low-income students • There have been 24 Rhodes Scholars, 35 Goldwater Scholars, 22 Truman Scholars, • Parents Club: over 22,000 membersThey stay involved just like OPA!

  3. The Campus • Built along the Monongahela River • Scenic all times of the year • Autumn leaves • Winter snow • Spring flowers • Summer hikes • Great for Visual-spatial learnersMultiple Intelligences

  4. “Blue and Old Gold” • Colors: Blue and Old Gold (not just Blue and Gold)The colors of the school come from the State Seal of West Virginia • The State Motto: “Mountaineers are always free.”We can overcome ANYTHING! • The WV logo is “Flying”:Nothing holds us back

  5. The Mountaineer Mascot • One of few colleges to have a real person as a mascot • A competition decides the mascot each year: The winner receives a special tailored Mountaineer gearincluding a buckskin coat and coonskin cap • Open to BOTHmen and women

  6. Distinguished Mountaineers • Many Leaders have graduated from West Virginia University • Everyone in our class researched a WVU graduate and role-model

  7. Dr. Kimberly Ann Weaver • Earned a degree in Physics at WVU • Astrophysics Astronomer and Professor • Expert in the field of X-ray AstronomyNASA Constellation X Project • Professor at Johns Hopkins University

  8. Jon McBride • Division Officer: 64 missions • Pilot for Navy • Astronaut for NASA • Lead chase pilot for Colombia • Pilot for the crew of the Orbiter Challenger • Astronauts are “One in a billion” because there are so few of them

  9. General Earl E. Anderson • Youngest active duty Marine to become a General • Four Star General, served until he was 45 • Continues to support West Virginia Universityas an alumni

  10. Jerry West • Basketball Player for LA Lakers: Years • Head Coach for LA Lakers: 6 NCAA Championship Rings • Appears as the silhouette (shadow) of the NBA logo • Inaugurated Kobe and Shaq
