About Me • B.A. and M.Ed. from University of Washington • Undergraduate Major - International Studies/Relations • 16th year teaching middle school language arts, social studies and leadership. • 12th year at BLMS • Prior to teaching - Human Resources/Recruiter • Originally from California. Washington resident for over 20 years • Married with a 3lb Chihuahua, a French Bulldog and 2 horses • When I’m not at school, I’m at the barn • Love to travel, hike, run,and ride my horses • I also love to organize!

  6. Junior Achievement Finance ParkField Trip All 8th graders are required to complete the JA finance curriculum and attend the JA Finance Park field trip. Where: JA Business Park in Auburn When: A – F Monday, November 13th G – N Tuesday, November 14th O – Z Thursday, November 16th Who: Students and Parent Volunteers!!! What: Helps students develop financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship, and to understand the actual “cost of living” for basic necessities of life.

  7. Grading Criteria Social Studies • Daily Work 40% • Assessments/Projects 60 %

  8. Progress Reports • Grades will be posted six times during the school year (Mid-term and end of Tri). • Grades are posted each time I enter an assignment in Skyward

  9. Supply List Must Have Supplies • Three-Ring Binder (2 inch or larger) • Notebook Paper • Several Black/Blue/Red Pens and Pencils • Green, Blue, Pink and Yellow Highlighters • Electronic Storage Supplies (USB preferred) • Colored Pencils, Glue Sticks, Scissors, Sharpies, Markers • Sheet Protectors • Replenish supplies as needed (at least twice per trimester) Extra Supplies • Map of United States or Atlas • A Young People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn

  10. 8th Grade Homework • Expect homework regularly • Imperative that students complete and turn in their work on time, especially now that they are in 8th grade. • No late work • Major assignments will be introduced with a handout of expectations, procedures and points. • Studying for tests – Study a little each night.

  11. Absences • Weekly Homework Board - Students need to check the“Weekly Homework” board for make up work and folders near the “Weekly Assignments” wall. • Website - Students also need to check my Website and the Homework Board for assignments they missed. • Due Dates - For every day absent, students will have a day to turn in their missing assignments including tests. • Test/Quiz Make-up - If a student misses a test or quiz, expect s/he to come in early or stay after school the next day. It is the student’s responsibility to set up a time with me. I will not follow up with them.
