  7. Hip-Hop: Where It Began This dance began in the United States as a way for African Americans to work towards equality. It also allowed them to express themselves and show how they are feeling. It is now performed by many different races in many different countries! The inspiration for this dance can be many things including equality, expressing yourself, or just for entertainment. BACK

  13. Native American Dances: Where It Began These Native American dances started in the United States and have remained very popular on Indian Reservations. These dances are done for religious purposes and for entertainment. They also dance to give thanks, bring success, and to celebrate things from their God! These dances are very important to them and are normally performed at their Pow Wows. BACK

  22. Irish River Dance: Where It Began The Irish River Dance began in Ireland. It started as a way to express political opinions, but it is now more commonly used for entertainment. BACK

  27. Bollywood:Where It Began Bollywood is from the country of India. Although it has been modernized, it began as a traditional dance. It originated with the Hindu religion, but now is a term used for a culture of movies, music, and dance. Bollywood dance and the traditional dances it came from were originally used for courtship (socializing) and entertainment. BACK

  34. Zulu:Where It Began This dance is from the Zulu tribe in Africa. Their dance is inspired by their spirituality. They use their dances to celebrate festivals, to recognize their past victories and warriors, and for other religious purposes. BACK
