  3. FY2005 UpdateSponsored Program Awards • Awards for FY05 totaled $37,335,094 including program-related gift revenue • Contract and Grant awards totaled $33,097,168, an increase of 15.2% over FY04

FY2005 UpdateSponsored Program Awards • Federal contract and grant awards for FY05 totaled $25,115,944, an increase of 13.7% over FY04 • Federal funding in excess of $25 million triggers a new set of cost accounting standards; we have until June, 2006 to file a disclosure statement demonstrating compliance

  8. FY2005 UpdateResearch Expenditures • Research expenditures for FY05 totaled $41,337,000, an increase of almost 15.9% over FY04

  10. FY2005 UpdateIntellectual Property • In FY05, MTU received 50 invention disclosures, received or filed 46 US/foreign patents, and executed 29 non-disclosure agreements and 11 license agreements.

  13. FY2005 UpdateGraduate Enrollment • Total fall 2005 graduate enrollment is 897, an increase of 8.2% over fall 2004. • Of this, 24 are distance students and 873 are on-campus, an increase of 78 on-campus students since fall 2004.

  14. FY05 UpdateGraduate Enrollment • There are 417 PhD students, or 46.5% of the total. • 269 graduate students are internally supported (30%) while the remainder are either self-supported (46%) or supported by external funds (24%).

  16. SmartZone Update • Incubators • Powerhouse occupancy is 85%+ • Portage Building opened this summer and has four tenants with negotiations underway with others • Technisource has located an engineering design operation that will employ up to 30 students in the Portage Building.

  17. Smartzone Update • The ATDC Building has its first SmartZone tenant, Endres Machining Innovations, LLC (MTU spinoff by Dr. W. Endres, MEEM; 4 employees, 1000 sq ft of office and lab space)

  18. SmartZone • Alan West, MTEC CEO, is leaving to assume a leadership position with the Life Sciences Greenhouse in Pittsburgh. • MTEC is working to secure a replacement.
