Tobique Valley Community Health Centre GENERATIONS COMMUNITY GARDEN • Funding Partners • Tobique Valley Community Health Centre – Horizon NB • Provision of land + staff leadership for project • Carleton-Victoria Community Inclusion Network • Overcoming Poverty strategy • Assistance grant • Plaster Rock Community Lottery • Partnership between Plaster Rock Fire Department and World Pond Hockey Championship Inc. • Supports progressive and sustainable community projects • Fire department equipment *Arbuckle Boat Landing * Roulston Lake Pavilion * Keeper of the Light Food Bank * Lord’s Pantry * Generations Community Garden • Operating Partners • Tobique Senior’s Club – vibrant group of 55+ residents who provide experience, expertise, volunteer labour + social activities. • Donald Fraser Memorial School – students receive health and science curriculum support; they plant early seeds in April for transplant in garden plus other volunteer labour. • Keeper of the Light Food Bank – benefactor of fresh vegetables + cooking classes + food preparation classes + nutrition education. Board members provide volunteer labour. • Spin-off Programming • Cooking Classes – Dietitian leads classes for students at schools; Food Bank clients; Food Purchasing Group members; Seniors club; Footloose members; Weight Loss Challenge participants; Diabetes Management Program patients; Summer Daycamp participants. • Nutrition Education – Dietitian leads (RN assisted) nutrition education at schools; senior’s complex; Food Purchasing Group ; Senior’s Club; Footloose members; Weight Management participants; Diabetes Management Program patients; Lunch and Learn participants; Fitness Family Feud participants. • School Curriculum Support – Dietitian re: nutrition education/ Senior’s re: gardening • Body Mechanics – PT + OT lead educational sessions for volunteers at community garden. Safety oriented with emphasis on proper techniques, clothing and footwear. • Sun Safety - sun safety and awareness education to students; seniors – all volunteers • Women’s Wellness Program – comprehensive women’s expo with nutritional components included. • RN’s at Food Bank – entry level to primary health care for many participants. Respect and dignity are key components. Improves awareness and access to health and health care. • The community garden at TVCHC is multi-generational in nature; • Seniors working with and teaching our youth – a multi-generational interaction • Generating healthy foods for people of all ages (multi-generational) • Generating food awareness and healthy dietary habits WHY “GENERATIONS” COMMUNITY GARDEN ?
