  2. Background information • Ferdinand Magellan was born in Portugal. • He was once injured in a battle in Morocco, • Tragically, he was killed in a battle in the Philippines.

  3. What Magellan did on his journey • He brought back silk, spices, and little plastic toys. • His crew lived on salted meat, cheese, and hard biscuits. • Magellan found the Pacific Ocean, and named it after his daughter.

  4. Timeline of life events • Born to a wealthy family in Portugal. • Became a page in the of King John 2, where he learns geography, and navigation. • Magellan travels to India as part of a Portuguese fleet. • Ferdinand Magellan got injured in a battle in Morocco. • Magellan presented his idea of circling the globe to King Manuel of Portugal, and is refused. Magellan takes his idea to Spain. • King Charles 1 of Spain pays for Magellan’s journey, and gives him five ships. • Magellan fulfills his idea by sailing around the world! • Tragically, he was killed in a battle in the Philipines.
