  1. DAY 1-Comm Arts (continuing Theseus and the Minotaur) Follow entering procedures. Turn in homework to the bin, get your computer and silently complete your bell ringer while the computer is uploading. Bell Ringer: In the hero’s test yesterday Who was the hero? Who was the villain? How did you know? Once you have finished these questions in your bell ringer section please review the story from yesterday and complete your chart. (6 minutes) We will share our answers and charts after the six minutes.

  2. Learning Goal and Essential Question • Learning Goal: Students will be able to understand support their ideas with sufficient relevant details. • Essential Question: How do we discover the hero/villain or protagonist/antagonist? What is their connection to conflict?

  3. Class Discussion • Recap: • Why does Theseus insist on going to Crete? • Is Theseus’ decision to fight the minotaur wise? Why or why not? • Who is the hero? (Remember Heroes save people) • Who is the villain? (Remember Villains cause harm or destroy. They are the masterminds behind it.)

  6. Your job: Be the story! • In your group do one of the following to show you understand the connection between characterization, the conflict, and the reader. You may either act it out, draw it, chart it, or write about it. Must be complete in your groups. You have five minutes. GO! • If acting show the conflict and then how the character traits play a part. Following show how the reader’s mood my be affected by this all. • If drawing, draw the above. If writing, write out the above. • If creating a chart is should look like this: Character Trait Conflict Reader’s mood

  7. Exit Ticket • Exit Ticket: Choose one! How did the hero in “The Hero’s test” impact or connect to the conflict? OR How did the villain in “The Hero’s test” impact or connect to the conflict? (2 minutes) Complete and give to Mrs.Thompson as you are dismissed.

  8. Homework • Based on the character trait you gave yourself last night how do you think this influences they way you handle conflict? Is it positive or negative? Why?
