  2. Survey Findings on CVs 86% of Interviewers think that cvs are not wholly truthful So be honest and truthful to gain an edge.

  3. Survey Findings on CVs They think 35% of cvs are factually correct. 66% check professional qualifications. 56% check academic qualifications.

  4. Structure of CV is key Highlight points for quick read For senior positions 2 or 3 sheets Put your strengths first and personal details last. Less is more.

  5. Get the spacing right Use a lot of white space Use the first paragraphs to highlight your strengths / profile / achievements etc.

  6. Use the right words Minimum words maximum impact. Use power words such as achieved, powered, motivated, triggered, led, drove etc. Beware of over-usage.

  7. Include all vital details Show your experiences. Show evidences Show leadership, responsibility, analytical and communication skills from life experiences.

  8. Read role definitions Do your research. Adapt your cv to show your experiences on what has been stated in the role definition. Think of career advancement as well.

  9. Leads & follow-up Call before sending cv. Call after sending cv. Go with the flow.

  10. Samples Lots available online. As a minimum : Profile, Experience summary, achievements, qualifications, Projects / roles undertaken.

  11. Cover letters Vital in UK. If you know the name, include in the address. Keep it brief. Provide important introduction – make it interesting.

  12. Pitch yourself Always think USP. Write points that separate you from the crowd and takes you closer to person spec.

  13. Certifications Industry certifications are useful to beat the race.

  14. Interviews Generally for starters: if you apply for 100 jobs, you can expect 10 replies and 1-3 interviews.

  15. Know the job before hand Do your homework on the company, role etc. and have details on hand. Shows keenness and commitment.

  16. Prepare answers There are common questions like ‘Tell me about you’, ‘your strengths’, ‘your projects’, ‘why are joining this job / leaving previous job’ etc.

  17. Think subtle points Both IQ and Emotional intelligence are important. Stay calm, plan your trip ahead.

  18. Presentation is key Present yourself smartly. Be Punctual. Show manners Show confidence Show alertness

  19. Prepare for tricky questions Why are you leaving previous job?, what are your weaknesses?

  20. Don t act too smart Don t try to dominate the interviewer or show off aggressively to the panel – if you don t want to be shown the door!

  21. Don t negotiate first up Shows you aim only for money and nothing else. Take time and let the interviewer start the topic.

  22. Think like the interviewer Why should they employ you? What can the company gain from you? Speak words that don t sound as arrogance.

  23. Give more Seek clarification if you are unsure. Ask questions about the company if they show interest. Enjoy the interview and show so. If the interviewer wants to throw some weight around - go with the flow, if you can.

  24. Body Language Practice. Sit upright. Show energy. Have eye contact and of course, a winning smile!

  25. Last question Can you please let know of any reservation, if any, in selecting me for this position? Prepare 3or 4 other questions also.

  26. Have Perspective How many jobs are around? How many people are applying? How tough is the competition?

  27. Don t give up Perseverance is key. Keep all options open. Be very logical and not emotional during this phase.

  28. Learn from Experience Even if you fail in an interview, the knowledge from the experience is enormous. Take note. Write down any feedback / comments / answers from interviewers in your log book.

  29. Follow-up call It might be useful to send an email or make a call after the interview. Shows interest. But be careful of not being a pest.

  30. Masters Explore MBA forums, Masters forums. Look at the university of Greenwich. Look at UCAS or other such bodies. Be specific about the specialisation too. Look at school ranking within University rankings

  31. Attitude BE POSITIVE
