  1. Peace of Mind

  2. The Age of Anxiety • Many people are tense, uptight, stressed, irritable, frustrated; in anguish, pain, and despair • This causes many physical and emotional problems • Who or what will we turn to?

  3. The Age of Anxiety • Many try to cope by turning to drugs, alcohol, sexual immorality, food, escape, attack, outlast it, etc.

  4. The Age of Anxiety Difficult decisions Unresolved conflicts Natural relationships Physical disabilities

  5. Peace: What is it? Not the absence of strife and trouble (2 Cor. 12:8-9) But, the presence of contentment, joy, and security in the face of strife and trouble

  6. Peace of Mind What should be in my mind to have “peace of mind”? What should my thoughts be? Thought #1: I am going to be right and remove any sin that keeps me from having peace (Rom. 3:17); I’m going to have clear conscience (Acts 24:16)

  7. Peace of Mind Thought #2: I am going to be forgiven of my sin through Jesus – “the Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6; Lk. 2:13-14; Acts 10:36; Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:14-17; Col. 1:20; 2 Pet. 3:14); Jesus can give me “rest” (Mt. 11:28-29)

  8. Peace of Mind Thought #3: I am going to let God’s word guide me today (Psa. 119:165; Acts 9:31; Rom. 8:6; Gal. 5:22; 6:16; Eph. 6:15; Phil. 4:9; Col. 3:15; 2 Tim. 2:22; Jas. 3:17; 2 Jn. 3); following God brings quiet rest (2 Chron. 14:1-6; 20:30)

  9. Peace of Mind Thought #4: I am going to be a peaceable person today (Rom. 12:8; 14:17,19; 2 Cor. 13:11; Eph. 4:3; 1 Thess. 5:13; Heb. 12:14; 1 Pet. 3:11) Thought #5: I am going to be orderly in all aspects of my life (1 Cor. 14:33): do it now, delegate, clear out the clutter, set priorities (kids are not first)

  10. Peace of Mind Thought #6: I am going to strive earnestly to live a quiet life taking care of my own business and not running around bothered by other’s concerns (1 Thess. 4:11) Thought #7: I am going to cast my cares upon God in prayer (Phil. 4:6-7; 1 Pet. 5:7)

  11. Peace of Mind Thought #8: I am going to be content with what I need: to simply be a faithful Christian (Phil. 4:11-13) Thought #9: I am going to remove needless commotion and disturbance from my life (1 Tim. 2:2) Thought #10: I am going to say no and rest (Mk. 6:31; Ex. 34:21)

  12. Peace of Mind… Be right Be forgiven Be guided by God’s word Be peaceable Be orderly Be quiet Be prayerful Be content Be tranquil Be restful

  13. God’s Promise of Peace “Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.” (Romans 15:33) “Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in all ways. The Lord be with you all.” (2 Thessalonians 3:16)
