CPR Study Guide Compressions*The MOST important part of providing CPR *30 compressions are given at one cycle at the rate of 100 compressions per minute*Compressions are at least 2” deep*Compressions should be given hard and fast AED *use AS SOON AS it arrives *First thing to do when you get the AED is TURN it ON and follow the prompts Steps to giving CPR CHECK the scene- if it is safe, check the victim. IF the victim is unresponsive… CALL- If available, tell someone to call 911 and get an AED CARE- Immediately start with 30 compressions-at least 2” deep at the rate of 100 per minute. After 30 compressions, tilt the head back and give two breaths. Check if air goes into their lungs - if NOT, re-tilt the head and try again. After two breaths, continue on to another cycle of 30 compressions and 2 breaths until AED arrives. When AED arrives, turn it on and follow prompts. Giving Breaths *Tilt head of victim back with one hand on the forehead, one hand on the boney part of the chin, and pinch the nose *Watch for chest to rise *If chest does not rise, re-tilt the head and try breaths again *You should give two breaths lasting about 1 second and not leaving compressions for more than 10 seconds When you call 911, answer all the dispatcher’s questions. Using a mask…make an airtight seal between the person’s face and mask.
