  2. Knute Rockne Although Notre Dame football started in 1837, they didn’t become prominent until 1918 when the legendary coach Knute Rockne took the helm In his 13 years as the Notre Dame head coach he amounted a record of 105 wins, 12 loses, and 5 ties. He also won 6 national championships
  3. 11 National Championships Over the years, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have managed to accumulate 11 National Championships with the most recent dating back to 1988.
  4. 7 Heisman Trophy Notre Dame is tied with USC for the most Heisman Trophy winners by a school. The most recent being Tim Brown in their national championship year of 1988.
  5. Notre Dame Stadium Notre Dame Stadium first opened during the 1930 season. The stadium is modeled after Michigan Stadium or “the big house.” The original seating capacity was just under 62,000. The construction cost for the stadium was near 750,000
  6. Notre Dame Stadium The most recent renovation to Notre Dame Stadium has brought the seating capacity to near 82,000. The stadium is well know for its view of “Touchdown Jesus” in it’s south end zone. “Touchdown Jesus” is a mural on the North Side of the Hesburgh Library.
  7. USC Rivalry The greatest intersectional rivalry in the nation started in 1926. The Notre Dame football team took a near 4,000 mile train ride to Los Angeles to defeat the Trojans 13-12. The rivalry feature two teams that are tied with the most national championships and the most Heisman Trophy winners in college football
  8. Notable Games In 1966 #1 Notre Dame tied the #2 Michigan State Spartans In 1988 #1 Miami was defeated by #2 Notre Dame, en route to their most recent national championship 2005 featured the “Bush Push” game. USC coming off 34 straight victories edged out a last drive win against the ninth ranked fighting irish
