Alignment Process: • Team was assembled to review legislation and align it to SADC agreements • Have started the review status • Following gaps identified in national legislation in comparison to SADC agreements • Planned to repeal and replace the plant variety and seeds act • Review the SI for seeds act • For Phytosanitary issues, we will review the SI only • Work is progressing well and we target complete the review process by mid November 2012

  3. ZERO drafts are ready and we currently consulting with stakeholders • We have put up a work plan to complete the review by Mid November (ready for bill to go through normal process) • Zambia looked at the harmonization of seeds policies as key to enhanced seed market and increased availability of seed of improved varieties • We therefore as a country committed to the process (Evidence –MOU signed)
