Why did Greeks originally form City- States? • The ancient Greeks originally formed City-States so that their people would have protection and stability from invasion and economical purposes. • The geography also promoted the creation of City-States in that the mountains and the Islands provided a natural segregation of people. • People of different regions and locations did not have as much contact with one another because of those geographical obstacles

  14. Monarchy • A monarchy is a type of government in which the ruling power is in the hands of one person. Most monarchies have been ruled by kings with the help of a council of advisors. The term monarchy comes from the Greek words mono (which means “single”) and arkhein (which means “rule”).

  15. Tyranny • Government is ruled by an individual who seizes control by illegal means. At time the Rule may aid the poor, cancel debts, and give others say apart from the nobles . Most people liked this government but some did not.

  16. Oligarchy This government is ruled by a some group of leaders. The Aristocrats, wealth middle class, and military leaders are usually the people that are put in positions to lead. Oligarchy lasted from 1100 to 400 b.c.e, with Sparta being the last that remained.

  17. Democracy • A democracy is a form of government in which the rule is in the hands of the people. Democracy was developed in 500 b.c.e in Athens Greece.`
