  3. Word of Wisdom: to receive supernatural revelation of insight into the divine will or purpose of God; insight in how to respond to problems and situations ‘Wisdom’ is different James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  4. Word of Wisdom: to receive supernatural revelation of insight into the divine will or purpose of God; insight in how to respond to problems and situations God’s ‘wisdom’ available for everyone The gift of the ‘word of wisdom’ (revelation gift) is given to each individual as He determines 1 Kings 3:16-28 1 Cor. 12:4-11 _____________

  5. Word of Knowledge: to receive a spontaneous knowledge of facts or details (past or present) about a person or situation that has not been discovered through natural inquiry ‘Knowledge’ is different Everyone can obtain knowledge The gift of the ‘word of knowledge’ (revelation gift) is given to each individual as He determines 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  6. Acts 5:1-3 1 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet. 3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?”

  7. Gift of Faith: the supernatural ability to believe God for something without human doubt, unbelief, or reasoning ‘Faith’ is different Romans 10:17(NLT) So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. ‘Faith’ in Christ is a prerequisite 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  8. Gift of Faith: the supernatural ability to believe God for something without human doubt, unbelief, or reasoning The ‘gift of faith’ (power-working or sign gift) is given to each individual as He determines Peter and John telling the crippled beggar to get up (Acts 3:1-10) 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  9. Gifts of Healing: to serve as a human channel in ministering divine healing and restoration of health, apart from natural means God heals (divine healing) or uses man as a human instrument (gifts of healing)— does a physician using medicine fall into this category? (Power-working or Sign Gift) 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  10. Gifts of Healing: Notice that it is plural– ‘gifts of healing’ Various ways God uses these gifts: Uses men to command the sick to arise, walk, etc. Uses the laying on of hands and anointing with oil Uses articles of clothing from a man (Paul’s handkerchiefs and aprons) 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  11. Gifts of Healing: Notice that it is plural– ‘gifts of healing’ Various ways God uses these gifts: Uses even the shadow of a man (Peter) Uses bizarre things (Jesus rubbed spit and mud in a blind man’s eye) 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  12. Working of miracles: to serve as a human channel through which God can perform acts which transcend the laws of nature; other manifestations besides healing (Power-working or Sign Gift) Raising the dead, parting the Red Sea, turning water into wine, etc. 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  13. Prophecy: to receive and communicate an immediate message of God to His people through a divinely-anointed utterance (Communication gift) comfort, encourage, guide, warn, or rebuke When the ‘revelatory gifts’ are communicated to people 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  14. Prophecy: “Thus saith the Lord” 1 Corinthians 14:32 Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns. “Liberty means responsibility. That's why most men dread it.” -Bernard Shaw 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  15. Discerning of Spirits: Three types of discernment- Natural discernment: available for every person (saved or not) - sometimes we call it good judgment Spiritual discernment: comes to a believer as they grow in Christ, His word, and as they develop a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  16. Discerning of Spirits: Three types of discernment- Gifted discernment: to know whether the source behind behavior is divine, human, or Satanic; to serve the church as watchmen; to identify supernaturally what is not truth Don’t let this be confused with or turn into criticalness! 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  17. Acts 16:16-18 16 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

  18. Gift of Tongues andInterpretation of Tongues: We will discuss in two weeks… 1 Cor. 12:4-11

  19. 24 But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, 25 as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!” 1 Cor. 14:24-25
