  1. 5 Conditions Legally Treatable with Cannabis in Utah The use of medical cannabis in Provo, Salt Lake City, and throughout the rest of Utah is steadily growing. Thanks to a 2018 ballot proposition and a cooperative legislature, patients suffering from certain medical conditions can now self- treat with cannabis. It must be understood that medical cannabis laws in Utah does not allow medical cannabis for just any purpose. The list of approved conditions is limited, and for good reason. The most common conditions that we see medical cannabis being used to treat are Chronic Pain and PTSD but we wanted to highlight some of the other conditions Utahns may be suffering from that we can help with. If you'd like to see the complete list, visit the state's medical cannabis website. Below are five of the most common conditions for which medical cannabis are appropriate. 1. Lou Gehrig's Disease (“ALS”) Known scientifically as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the condition's common name is attributable to one of baseball's greatest players, New York Yankee Lou Gehrig. He was diagnosed in the 1930s. For the record, ALS was first discovered in the late 1860s. ALS is a progressive motor neuron disease that affects nerve cells in the brain, spinal cord, and muscles. Thus, a person afflicted with it will slowly lose the ability to move. Everyday tasks, like buttoning a shirt or turning the page of the book, gradually become more and more difficult. Medical cannabis may temporarily alleviate the symptoms of ALS. 2. Alzheimer's Disease Alzheimer's disease is one of the more common forms of dementia. As it progresses, it makes it more difficult for people to remember things, tasks, and even people. It also slowly erodes a person's ability to control certain bodily functions. Alzheimer's patients are prone to feelings of frustration and anxiety as well as dramatic mood swings. Medical cannabis may help patients better manage the emotional and mental effects of the condition.

  2. 3. Cancer There is not much we can say about cancer in terms of a general overview. We are all familiar with it to some degree, with many of us knowing at least one person who has succumbed to a form of this terrible disease. One of the worst things about cancer is the pain that comes with it. The disease itself causes pain, but so do many of the treatments. Medical cannabis is often used as means of alleviating the pain and nausea 4. Crohn's Disease Crohn's disease is one condition in a group of diseases classified as inflammatory bowel disease. Crohn's is essentially an inflammation of the digestive system. It can affect virtually any part of the system, though it is normally associated with the colon and small intestine. Crohn's patients can be asymptomatic for short periods of time, then go for weeks or months with severe symptoms including fever, stomach pain and tenderness, and bleeding. Medical cannabis may be appropriate to alleviate the pain and stabilize some of the other symptoms. 5. Epilepsy Epilepsy is a seizure disorder caused by unusual electrical signals in the brain. Medical science is still not clear on what causes epilepsy, but we do know that some people suffering from the condition suffer from recurrent and sometimes violent seizures. Epileptic seizures can be dangerous for patients suffering from them. Quite a few medications, including medical cannabis, have shown to reduce the frequency and severity of epileptic seizures. Indeed, epilepsy was one of the first medical conditions for which medical cannabis proved extremely helpful. Final Thoughts Hopefully this post has given you an idea of some of the conditions approved in the state of Utah for treatment with medical marijuana. Needless to say that we are big proponents of cannabis as a medical therapy. We carry both sativa and indica cannibis, in a variety of strains, all of which are tested in Department of Health-approved labs and from the highest quality cultivators and processors in Utah. We are here to serve those with valid medical cannabis cards or letter recommendations.
