It has also been described as an ancient Indian architecture, which carries unlimited practical experiences of the ancient architects, related to building design in context to human life and eco systems. It has in its core, the secrets of designing Green building with least wastage. Scientific vastu has simple passive techniques of creating healthy buildings which are HUMAN and NATURE centric. The science of living in harmony with laws of nature has lived since evolution of mankind. It is felt, perceived and analyzed by many, but expressed and written by few. It has also been understood as the science of directions that combines all the five elements of nature with man and material. It is a deep understanding of harmony between Purush (Living Beings) and Prakriti (Nature). Harmony is an instinctive understanding and is primarily subconscious driven. Through the science of Vastu, the subconscious mind of the occupants harmonizes with the elements of building and nature. 45. Understanding Scientific Vastu / 45 Since Vastu has existed from thousands of years, therefore there are innumerable views. Everyone has described this science in his or her own way. There are innumerable definitions of Vastu. “It is a Science and an art of living in Harmony with the Laws of Nature.” The root word “Vaas” from the word Vastu means to reside. Therefore, “Vastu is the study of building and land where Human and other beings reside.” It is has also been explained as “Science of Wiser Creations.” Mostly it is understood as “Science of directions that bring harmony to life”. Many scholars have also referred to Vastu as a traditional Hindu system of architecture, which literally translates to “Science of Architecture.” These texts found in the Indian subcontinent describe principles of design, layout, measurements, ground preparation, space arrangement and spatial geometry. The ancient text on Vastu Shastra like Mayamatam and Manasara included chapters on land selection, construction of multi-storey buildings, furniture, main entrance, town planning and village planning etc. Due to lack of knowledge, modern architects and designers rarely know the secrets of ancient Indian architecture. The ancient architecture is merely studied as theoretical history and their concepts are never used practically in modern architecture. My opinion for Vastu is extremely simple; yet very deep. Scientific Vastu: Unrevealed Secrets of Energies / 46 Scientific Vastu is the study of Relationship between Occupants, Building in Context to Land, Location & Environment Explanation The first and foremost important point of consideration in the definition of Scientific Vastu is the relationship between occupants and building. A very important question arises: Is there a relationship between occupant and building? Are both of them inter-related or inter-dependent? In reality, it is a known fact that human beings get affected by the building they live in. Generally, we find people reacting to different places.
