  1. Local Partners Presented by: Isabelle Mballa, Mali P4P Coordinator

  2. What has worked well • Market access • Trainings • Access to credit, inputs and equipment • WFP market connected FOs to other organizations • Women empowerment • Improved crops quality • Recognition of farmers’ role • Farmers have developed negotiation skills • Exposure to external environment • Environmental and health consciousness (El Salvador) • Post harvest losses reduced

  3. Challenges • Access to credit , high interest rates • Markets beyond WFP • Limited number of commodities • Storage capacity not always available, rented • Delays in payments • Women participation still low • Access to land for women • Access to input - priority given to men • Building partnerships and ensure continued support in crisis situations (Mali)

  4. Looking beyond • There is need to have a common approach, however not one solution fits all, important to adapt to local knowledge • Systematic approach for training FOs, adapted to the local context • Good governance and ownership are key • Develop training for local governments • Train FOs to reach out to organizations to access services and support Strengthen partnership, scalability and sustainability

  5. Thank you
