  2. Getting There… 23.5 units of high school credit are required for graduation One unit equals one full year in a class

  3. 1st Semester 1st & 2nd Eight weeks 7 classes in regular day=3.50 units • 2nd Semester 3rd & 4th Eight weeks 7 classes in regular day=3.50 units Students can earn at least 7.00 units/year

  4. How Units Are Earned 1st 8 weeks grade= 92 2nd 8 weeks grade= 88 Average of the two= 90 x (80%)= 72 Semester Exam/EOCT= 80 x (20%)= 16 Semester Grade= 72 + 16 = 88 for the semester Since the semester grade was above 70, the student earned .50 unit in this class

Graduation Requirements • Science – 4 years/ 4.00 total units required -Biology -Physics or Physical Science -At Least 2 of the following: Chemistry or Environmental Science or Food Nutrition through the Lifespan or AP Science or college class or Horticulture • Required EOCTs – Biology Physical Science

Graduation Requirements • Health and Personal Fitness (1.00 unit) • Electives (7.00 units) • Two of the electives must be in Modern Language if a student intends to attend or transfer to a 4 year college or university. They must take 2 consecutive years of Spanish. Typically students take Spanish I in the 10th Grade and Spanish II in the 11th Grade.

  24. Valedictorian & Salutatorian • In order to be eligible for Valedictorian or Salutatorian, the student must take the most difficult courses offered in the English, Math, Science and Social Studies sequences.

  26. What is Math Support? • Addresses the needs of students who have traditionally struggled in mathematics by providing the additional time and attention they need in order to successfully complete their regular grade level math course without failing

What is the Difference Between Accelerated Math & Standard Math ? • The Accelerated Math classes move at a much faster pace than the standard Math classes. • It is designed to cover essentially what equals a math and a half as the next course in the math sequence will be partially covered during the academic year.

  29. What is the Difference between Regular classes & Honors/Gifted? • Honor’s/Gifted will move at a faster pace with greater expectations. • Requires more interaction with the content at a higher level supplemented with homework, projects, out of class reading assignments

  30. HOPE Scholarship • For any student entering 9th grade this fall, they must take at least 4 advanced level classes to qualify for the HOPE scholarship. • Go to the Georgia Student Finance Commission for more information. • www.gsfc.org

  31. 4 Courses Required • 1) Advanced math, such as Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, or an equivalent or higher course taken at an eligible high school or taken for degree level credit at an eligible postsecondary institution • 2) Advanced science, such as Chemistry, Physics, or an equivalent or higher course taken at an eligible high school or taken for degree level credit at an eligible postsecondary institution • 3) Advanced Placement courses in core subjects • 4) International baccalaureate courses in core subjects • 5) Courses taken at a unit of the University System of Georgia in core subjects where such courses are not remedial and developmental courses • 6) Advanced foreign language courses taken at an eligible high school or taken for degree level credit at an eligible postsecondary institution.
