  1. Thinking, feeling, acting

  2. Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith Noah – Thought - Considered God’s warning. Felt - Feared God Acted - Prepared an ark.

  3. Some things we want to learn from this passage: • All three of these things are involved in our service to God. • Mark 12:30 - And you shalllove the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. • None of them is of any value without the others. • While each has its proper place, each one can be given improper emphasis.

  4. Thinking • Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together,”Says the Lord, • God appeals to our intellect to draw us to Him. • John 6:44f • Gave us free will. • Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely

  5. The Evidence • Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, • Eye witness accounts of the miracles • John 20:30f And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. • Eyewitness accounts of the resurrection of Jesus – 1 Corinthians 15:3-8

  6. Belief Is A Work • John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” • We must use our minds to discern the will of the Lord by understanding the Scriptures. • 2 Timothy 2:15, Ephesians 5:17, 2 Peter 1:5, 3:16, 18

  7. Belief Is A Work • Must think about (meditate on) the truth and the conduct God expects of us. • Psalm 1:1f, 119:97, Colossians 3:16, Philippians 4:8 • Think of the truths of Heaven, Hell, and the sacrifice of our Lord (especially during Lord’s Supper 1 Corinthians 11:27f)

  8. Proper Emphasis for Thought • Improper emphasis on our thoughts will get us in trouble. • 2Kings 5:11f, John 16:2 • Always submit to God’s will, and never follow our own thoughts and ideas. • Jeremiah 10:23, Isaiah 55:8-9

  9. The truth we learn should result in certain feelings. • Fear • Noah was moved by godly fear at the warning he received. • Acts 24:25 Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.”

  10. Feelings • Love • When we come to know what God has done for us, we should love him, both phileo and agape. • 1 John 4:19 We love him because he first loved us. • Create a desire to please him and do his will.

  11. Feelings • Joy • Acts 8:38-39 Eunuch went on his way rejoicing • Acts 16:31-34 – The Philippianjailer rejoiced

  12. Feelings are not a source of authority. • Genesis 37, Jacob was convinced that Joseph was dead. • His grief was real. • He tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his son many days. V 34 • But his feelings were wrong. • Joseph was alive down in Egypt.

  13. Feelings – not authority • Paul had lived in good conscience before God to that day. Acts 23:1 • His feelings were wrong. Acts 26:9-11 • Many FEEL that they are saved but they are not. • They have not obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ. • 2 Thessalonians 1:8 • Proverbs 28:26 He who trusts in his own heart is a fool • 2 Timothy 3:16-17

  14. The right kind of thinking and feeling should result in ACTION. • Noah heard, believed and OBEYED God’s warning and instructions. • Genesis 6:13-21, God gives Noah instructions for building the ark. • 6:22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

  15. Saving faith leads to works, causes us to move with godly fear • James 2:14-26, Galatians 5:6 • 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. • James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

  16. Actions alone are not enough. • Hebrews 11:6 – must be motivated by faith (thought process) • Lots of people who do lots of good works will be lost. Matthew 7:21-23 • The scriptures define what good works are. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Ephesians 2:10

  17. Actions alone are not enough. • Must be done with the proper feeling • Worship must be in spirit and truth, John 4:24 • Lord’s supper with no love or gratitude or self-examination, 1 Corinthians 11:27-28 • Singing without feeling, 1 Corinthians 13:1 • Going through the motions, Matthew 23

  18. We can never earn salvation. • Luke 17:10 So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’” • God has made it possible for us to be saved. John 3:16, Romans 1:16, 2 Thessalonians 1:8

  19. Think, Feel and Act Tonight! • Believe – John 8:24 • Confess – Matthew 10:32-33 • Repent – Luke 13:3 • Be Baptized – Mark 16:16 • Be Faithful – Revelation 2:10
