  1. Welcome to 2nd Grade!!!

  2. Contact Information: E-mail: ymccay@ebrschools.org Phone: 225-926-5421 If you need to schedule a conference please contact me by e-mail, or through the school office. Conferences can be scheduled between 8:00-8:15 a.m., except on Wednesday, and 12:00-12:15 & 12:15-12:30 p.m. (M, W, TH), but please no drop-in conferences. If I feel that we need to have a conference, I will send home a conference note in your child’s B.B.E. (Big Brown Envelope).

  3. It is very important for your child to be at school and be on time so that they do not miss any instructional time. ELA will start each day at 8:20. If your child is absent please contact the office, and I can get their work together to send home. Students will be responsible for making up work when they return to school. Homework is listed on my webpage. Ancillary Schedule: 12:00-12:55 Monday: Library Tuesday: Art Wednesday: Spanish Thursday: PE Friday: Music

  4. Open House Packet • Your Open House packet contents are in your child’s BBE. • The EBR handbook on Rights and Responsibilities (read, sign and return pgs. 1 & 2); registration directions for EdGear/Jcampus; student enrollment form(yellow sheet); student Chromebook contract and RACE Rubric (to be kept at home in a safe place).

  5. Open House Packet • Please read and sign all important forms and return through the BBE. • Students will have a Google account to log in to Clever. The students will have 1 login for AR, IXL and Zearn. • These logins will be given as soon as IT gives it to us. • Right now please use the Zearn login given to your child. This login can be found in the purple notebook.

  6. RACE Rubric • The yellow RACE rubric is the writing tool we will use for all constructed responses in ELA, Science, Social Studies and math. • It will also be the rubric (4 points) I will use to grade constructed responses for the year. • You will need to keep this in a safe place at home. Please refer to it when answering constructed response questions for graded homework.

  7. Homework Assessments *Tests will change weekly. Check the weekly newsletter and web page for information. It is your child’s responsibility to copy all test information into their purple notebook, and give their parent the weekly newsletter. • Reading – read and AR book for 15-20 minutes every night. • Spelling: study spelling words. • Math- study Mad Minutes every night& complete practice workbook pages. • Science/Social Studies – study study guides and reread lessons. • *Homework will change daily/weekly. It is your child’s responsibility to copy all homework into their purple notebook and give their parent the weekly newsletter.

  8. Accelerated Reader Star Test: Each student has taken the Star test. This determined the level that they should be reading on for A.R. • Students can take 2 AR Tests every day. • Students must have a completed AR slip with a parent signature. • Please sign the letter for our first AR test Mr. Putter and Tabby Spill the Beans – located in the BBE The following website can be used for you to check a book’s A.R. level: www.arbookfind.com.

  9. IXL, Zearn, and Achieve 3000 • Zearn.org & IXL is here and students should begin using. Their login is in their purple notebook. • Achieve 3000 will be coming soon…. • Each student will have a log-in information that will be used in Clever with a google login. They will use this in library and computer lab. It doesn’t work well if they don’t have their own personal device. • Please complete the yellow form in the BBE and return to school on Friday. • IXL , Zearn & Achieve 3000 can be done at home at anytime. I will write in the newsletter what lessons should be the focus. • IXL, Zearn & Achieve 3000 will be used in the classroom and assigned for homework.

  10. “B.B.E.” & Purple Folder • The purple folder needs to be returned to school daily. • Important notes and homework will be sent home in this purple folder. • Please be sure to check your child’s folder DAILY. • Conduct Chart: This needs to be signed and returned weekly. This is very important. • Please help your child keep their folder organized! • Big Brown Envelope • This will be sent home every Wednesday with test papers. • BBE must be signed and returned no later than Friday. • ALL papers MUST be returned in the envelope. • Communication • Please contact me at any time if you have any questions/concerns. • Phone: 225-926-5421 • Email: ymccay@ebrschools.org • Notes: send in purple folder or purple notebook

  11. Weekly Newsletter The weekly newsletter will be sent home every Monday. You will find test(s) information, spelling/vocab. words, extra Mad Minute practice sheets, extra practice work, and other important academic information on the weekly newsletter.

  13. School Supplies Please make sure that your child is prepared for the school year. It is important for them to have school supplies, so they can stay organized with their class work and homework. You can get a school supply list from the school office.
