G L OACB Good Life Training Series Top 5 reasons not see people as “Behaviors” • It sends the message that a person needs fixed or cured • It sets the stage for confrontations & power struggles • It creates a culture where power, control & coercion are acceptable methods • It serves as an easy out to justify compliance plans & aversive consequences in the name of behavioral technology • It serves to justify the use of punishment & restraint as a helping solution

  4. Choose one person in your group • Write a Behavior Management Plan, on a challenging behavior, on one person using the traditional types of management: • Compliance • Control and coercion to obtain compliance • Elimination of target behaviors through the use of punitive consequences

  5. Behavior Support Plan • Identify a targeted behavior to eliminate • Identify what that behavior will be replaced with • Will the person be punished if this behavior occurs? • What will the person have to do in order to earn something everyone else already has? • How will staff control the person to make sure this behavior doesn’t happen? • Will any restraints be used? • Identify what the person really likes then use that as a way to control behaviors.
