  3. Introduction • The goal of this project was to construct a roller coaster within a .5m by .5m by .5 m area. • We went to Lowe’s to buy the tubing and funnels, and we went to Dick’s Sporting Goods to find the ball. • Everything else came from Blake’s house or Estabrook 13.

  4. The Track • The tube starts very high so the ball can pick up enough speed to make it through the loop. • After the loop, the ball jumps through the air into the funnel that drops it into the pipe. • 3 pipes wrap around the box at an angle; the ball drops through the 3 pipes until it reaches the 4th diagonal pipe that drops the ball into a cap.

  5. The Coaster

  6. Calculations • Beginning to before loop • PE KE • Bottom of loop to top of loop • KE PE+KE • Top of loop to bottom of loop • KE+PE KE • Bottom of loop to jump • KE KE+PE • Jump • projectile motion • 5 Pipes • PE+KE KE

  7. Conclusion • We encountered MANY problems while trying to complete this project • The time limit of 15 seconds • How to keep the tube at the height we needed • The angle the ball jumps into the funnel
