Adjustment of Status in US What is Adjustment of Status? “Adjustment of status” is a process undergone by Individuals who are not born in the United States, and do not have legal permanent resident status (or a “green card” or “lawful permanent resident”) in order to remain in the country, for as long as they meet the necessary criteria. Adjustment of status usually involves a nonimmigrant visa holder or parolee (temporary) converting to immigrant status, in order to get a green card for lawful permanent residence. How Do I Apply for Adjustment of Status in the U.S.? Once you have established your eligibility, such as whether a family member or employer may petition on your behalf, you may begin your green card application. The following steps are meant to serve as a general guideline. 1. File an Immigrant Petition 2. Confirm Visa Availability 3. File an Application to Register Permanent Residency or Adjust Status 4. Go to the nearest Application Support Center 5. Attend an Interview, if applicable 6. Wait for Final Decision of the USCIS Contact Us The assistance of a California immigration lawyer can make the process of obtaining a green card as simple as possible. 18071 Irvine Blvd, Tustin, CA 92780, USA 949-649-6378 admin@dienerlaw.net dienerlaw.net
