Passive voice. We use the passive voice to talk about an activity when we do not know or do not need to know who does it. How do we change a sentence from active voice to passive voice?. Let’s look at the following examples. Active voice:. He washes the dishes.

  2. We use the passive voice to talk about an activity when we do not know or do not need to know who does it.

  3. How do we change a sentence from active voice to passive voice? Let’s look at the following examples.

  4. Active voice: He washes the dishes. When the sentence is in the simple present tense, we change the verb to its past participle form and add ‘is/are’ before the verb. Passive voice: The dishes are washed.

  5. Active voice: He cleaned the table. When the sentence is in the simple past tense, we change the verb to its past participle form and add ‘was/were’ before the verb. Passive voice: The table was cleaned.

  6. More examples Active voice: They made their beds. Passive voice: The beds were made.

  7. Active voice: A thief stole the car. Passive voice: The car was stolen.

  8. Active voice: Someone turned on the computer. Passive voice: The computer was turned on.
