  11. Pittsburgh – lessons learned • Front or boundary passage at the time of peak convection in a tropical air mass will lead to a t-storm! • A lifting wave (leftover Isaac) will often entrain drier air as the southwesterly flow increases. • There is a tendency for convection to consolidate around a primary boundary as dusk approaches • Consider the likelihood of sunny breaks ahead of a cold front with burgeoning convection – to briefly raise late afternoon temperatures

  12. ClASS VIEW OF A RAIN DELAY AT PNC PARK 74% Indicated a 60% chance or less with half the class saying less than 40% risk – none said >80%! Should the delay occur, the sense was that it was last for 15-30 minutes – the rain delay was >60 minutes!

  13. Pirates outcome – a winner with a 75 minute rain delay! Rodriguez looked a little shaky early on following a 75-minute rain delay. Jose Altuve singled to lead off the game then stole second. Justin Maxwell walked with two outs, but Jason Castro grounded to short and from there Rodriguez cruised. Houston never got a runner to third over Rodriguez's final six innings.
